A New Beginning

Beginnings. They can be scary. And they can be exciting. I’ve heard, and I believe, that when a beginning is both scary and exciting, that’s when you know you’re on the right track. Each step I’ve taken to make Studio143 a reality has been both scary and exciting…  Some might even call it crazy.

What would I think if I had a friend — with a full-time teaching job, a husband and four adolescent sons, two dogs, two cats, a guinea pig, and turtles — who wanted to start a business? If I didn’t practice yoga, I might just say, “Girl, you’re crazy!” But I do practice yoga. And this I know is true: anything is possible when you practice yoga.

Yoga has changed my life in many ways. In ways I never could have predicted or imagined, let alone expected,  before they happened. These changes didn’t happen overnight. I’ve taken hundreds of yoga classes plus practice on my own daily.

Then, as I was working on my 200-hour yoga teacher training (YTT), something deep inside me shifted. As if my yoga practice had reached some spiritual critical mass. I suddenly realized, in a deep and profound way, that yoga practice really can change your life. That it had already changed mine.

I understand now that yoga isn’t simply about poses, or balance, or becoming more flexible. Yoga is a way of thinking, a way of breathing, a way of being. Yoga’s a way of stepping back and becoming mindful. Of letting go of what you can’t control. (Of recognizing what you can’t control!) Yoga is a practice that changes the body, the mind, and the spirit.

Meanwhile, it is already August — the Sunday night of summer vacation for students and teachers returning to school. In the next few weeks, I’ll attend workshops and meetings. I’ll prepare lesson. I’ll get my classroom ready for a new group of second graders, who’ll be both scared and excited.

I’ll also be picking out tiles and paint colors, deciding on lighting, ordering mats, and blocks, and blankets. I’ll be writing more blog posts and scheduling classes.  I’ll be back to school shopping with my four boys, aged 10, 12, 14, and 16.

Without yoga, I would be insane.

With yoga I breathe and do what needs doing. Yoga reminds me that thoughts, sane and crazy, will blow by like summer clouds. Yoga practice sees me through the best and most challenging of times.

This time, right now, is one of the best of times. It’s a time of change and growth. It’s a time of beginnings, of new possibilities. I’m blending my passion for teaching children and adults with my decades-old dream of opening a yoga studio.

I’m excited and scared, and I don’t know what will happen. But I do know that I am grateful beyond words for the help I’ve been given along the way. Heartfelt thanks to my family, my friends, and… you know who you are. I couldn’t have done it without you. Or my yoga practice, which has given me both roots and wings.

When we going to start something new we hesitate and scare as well. But when we start it and the outcomes are good then we able to become confident. I found this papercoach.net link article very motivational and would boost our confidence level.
